For the cost of a plate glass window, Dov Charney gets a full national news cycle’s worth of free advertising.
Way to go, douchebags.

taking bets these assholes were placed by the opposition to OWS. i dont think too many people have an issue with AA, other than dov charney being gross. if i were one of those “anarchists*” (ugh) id go after a store that exploits labor overseas… at least AA workers are subject to US labor laws.
*any anarchist with half a brain knows that destroying storefronts SOLVES NOTHING, and on top of that, it makes the whole movement and real anarchists look bad.

I love this, and I love the whole site. Check it out, even if you are not in favor of the movement but have a soft spot for design - some of it (such as this one) is quite excellent!

AMAZING video of a journalist not taking crap from NYPD (by 12160info)

If, within the next year, we see legislation brought up for debate in Congress that would ban the filming of police officers in public places, we will know that our government is completely in the pocket of those who would deprive us of our rights.

True. Also, well done by that guy. He was non-violent but firm, explained himself, and I’d say he won. Awesome.

We should make a new journalism award just for being a badass like this guy. Awesome.

It’s funny, we covered this right in my intro to photo class during my freshman year of college. In America, it is 110% LEGAL to film/photograph anything on a public street or sidewalk. Filmers/photographers do not have to ask permission to do so, even if they are filming people/children/ect., although it is generally considered common courtesy to ask in advance when filming/photographing people. Of course since this is a protest that’s not applicable anyways. And the NYPD must not conceal their badges (preventing film/photo of it would be considered concealing IMO), and when asked for their badge number they must give it. I believe that rule applies to all PDs across the country, but I know for a fact that rule applies to the NYPD.

THIS IS WHAT A POLICE STATE LOOKS LIKE.

Found these walking home from the Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil. I don’t know who put them up, but I’ve got a hunch it’s someone from my Women in Politics class. The final project in that class is to do an act of feminist conciseness raising.

These signs were put up at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

That’s really cool.

Now let’s make them not white and see what happens :x

Letter to NYPD from the NY Times Company

If this isn’t a smoking gun on the wanton abuse by the NYPD of the first amendment right to the freedom of press, I don’t know what is. This was literally signed by the who’s who of NY media, both print and tv. Shit just got real.

Four different videos of the UC Davis pepper spray incident synced together. This is really, really hard to watch.

DON’T SHOOT STUDENTS. THEY WILL FORM THE CORE OF THE UPRISING. DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB.

reblogging, for those who think that the videos are one sided and highlight the police action rather than the protesters violence prior to police action (which doesnt exist).

Officials with the NYPD, which conducted the undercover investigation using a confidential informant and a bugged apartment, said the department had to move quickly because Pimentel was about to test a pipe bomb made out of match heads, nails and other ingredients bought at neighborhood hardware and discount stores.

Two law enforcement officials said Monday that the NYPD’s Intelligence Division had sought to get the FBI involved at least twice as the investigation unfolded. Both times, the FBI concluded that Pimentel lacked the mental capacity to act on his own, they said.

The FBI thought Pimentel “didn’t have the predisposition or the ability to do anything on his own,” one of the officials said.

The Associated Press: Mother of bomb plot suspect apologizes to NYers

I can’t believe that no one is seeing that this is a very clear and very obvious PR stunt courtesy of King Bloomberg… Everyone gets wet at the thought of beating those damn terrorists - that they completely forget everything else that happened in the days and weeks leading up to the thwarting of the “terrorist plot”.

Let’s see… we have NYPD ticket fixing, illegal use of excessive force at OWS, stop and frisk racial profiling, and the issue of the NYPD protecting their own by moving troubled officers around (or not) rather than firing them… Bloomberg has a million and one reasons to use this as a PR stunt. If he actually cared about NYers safety, he would of apprehended the guy two years ago.

The political motivation behind this sickens me. I don’t disagree with Jose Pimental’s arrest - but I am disgusted by the timing. It’s so. fucking. obvious. And don’t even get me started about the wasting of tax payer dollars to recreate an imagined car bomb, that was distributed to news networks and misrepresented as an actual bomb.

"The CLGC memo raises another issue that it says should be of concern to the financial industry — that OWS might find common cause with the Tea Party. “Well-known Wall Street companies stand at the nexus of where OWS protestors and the Tea Party overlap on angered populism,” the memo says. “…This combination has the potential to be explosive later in the year when media reports cover the next round of bonuses and contrast it with stories of millions of Americans making do with less this holiday season."

We ARE the 99 Percenters !: Exclusive: Lobbying Firm’s Memo Spells Out Plan to Undermine Occupy Wall Street (VIDEO)

It’s funny, I suggested at a recent think tank meeting at OWS that we extend outreach to tea partiers, although we are likely ideologically different, to work together on certain issues that we both want to end - especially the provision in the SEC act that allows politicians the ability to have insider trading without penalization. We may be on opposite sides of the ideological spectrum (and that certainly is not the case for all protesters or partiers), but we have common goals, and thats one of them. The banks would shit their fucking pants if we got over our divisions and worked together for goals we both share… which is why the media has an extensive smear campaign against us.

facebook facepalm

So I went on facebook last night to express my disgust at the majority of my friends (save for like 10) who haven’t shown an ounce of outrage at the current events we are going through. Perhaps I should have been more clear - by current events I meant more so the police brutality towards protesters than the actual things the protesters were protesting. Everyone can agree that the economy is shit and the politicians are corrupt - that’s why congress’ approval rating is at a record low.

Anyways, the responses I’ve received were:

1. You’re condescending and you’re no better than us
2. We’re too busy to show we care, but we care
3. We’re too busy to care
4. The police were justified, because obviously the protesters had to be doing something wrong.
5. Why should I care? They are just looking for a handout… maybe if they went and got a job they wouldn’t be complaining.

Perhaps I am condescending… after all, I tend to be an apologetic condescending cunt 90% of the time regardless of topic. Perhaps people do care but they are too busy to express it (well, you are on facebook… I mean at least a status of WTF is with the police would be nice). But the last three reasons… especially the last two… fucking facepalm.

Sen. Bernie Sanders: Deficit caused by wars, tax breaks and Wall Street | The Raw Story

inothernews:

randomactsofchaos:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Thursday urged the congressional debt committee not to propose any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.

“This country does in fact have a serious deficit problem,” he said to about 200 people packed into the Senate Budget Committee room.

“But the reality is that the deficit was caused by two wars - unpaid for. It was caused by huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in the country. It was caused by a recession as a result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street. And if those are the causes of the deficit, I will be damned if we’re going to balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the children, and the poor. That’s wrong.”

Who Smashed the Laptops from Occupy Wall Street? Inside the NYPD’s Lost and Found

Worse, it was as if someone along the way purposefully destroyed all confiscated electronics, a strategic smashing of at least part of the digital record logged by full-on occupiers. “Dude, all the laptops are in a row,” he tells us, baffled and raking his shock of brown hair. “They’ve all been smashed with bats.” When asked about the mangled property, LiPani admits that, inevitably, certain items could’ve been damaged in the shuffle: “I’m not surprised,” he says, to hear of damaged laptops. He adds that the DSNY is providing clearance forms to those occupiers concerned their property may’ve been mishandled or misplaced.

And they erased all the media on the hard drives and SD cards from phones. Not surprised. Governments are terrorists, including especially ours.

Bless you Rolling Stone. This is why Charlie came to you with her problem.

I don’t know if it’s more sad that this situation exists in and of itself, or that the most clear reporting about this comes from a music magazine.

If the rich don’t get their entitled tax cuts, they can’t hire you for minimum wage! /sarcasm
What kills me is when people ask why we are protesting across the country… I don’t know, you tell me what’s wrong with this fucking picture!
